A former Butler Township woman now living in Texas pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to probation in Butler County court on Tuesday.

Tori M. Harbin, 23, of Lumberton, Texas, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple assault before Judge Timothy McCune, and was immediately sentenced to 12 months county probation.

She was also ordered to pay court costs and a $100 fine, and McCune allowed the probation to be transferred to Texas.

Harbin was initially charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment after an incident in Summit Township on July 13. The remaining charges were withdrawn as part of the plea.

State police said she cut a man with a knife and bit him during a dispute in the front yard of her former home on Bish Road.

Troopers say they were dispatched to Harbin's home at 108 Bish Road at about 2:30 a.m., after a witness said they saw Harbin hitting a man, identified as Marco A. Mijares, in her front yard. The witness told police that Harbin then went inside the home, where she retrieved multiple kitchen knives and began throwing them at Mijares.

Police said Harbin hit the man with one of the thrown knives, causing a laceration to the left side of his back. Mijares then tried to grab the remaining knives from Harbin, police said; she bit him on the left calf and he smacked her in an attempt to get her off, according to court documents.
