Judge orders probation in drug case
An Allegheny County man was sentenced to probation in Butler County Court on Thursday, after being charged with drug distribution in Butler city.
Trevon M. Roberts, 24, of Braddock, was sentenced to 12 months county probation by Judge William Shaffer. He also ordered that the probation could be transferred to Roberts' home county of Allegheny, and ordered Roberts to pay court costs and a $75 fine.
Roberts previously pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance on Oct. 4.
He was initially charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, receiving stolen property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana after a traffic stop on Center Avenue in Butler on Dec. 10, 2016.
The stolen property charge was dismissed at the magisterial district judge level, and the controlled substance possession charge to which he pleaded was later added. The remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea.
Roberts was charged alongside Taalibe A. Glover, 23, of Pittsburgh, after Butler City police pulled over the vehicle the two men were in for an expired registration sticker.
When the officer approached the vehicle, the smell of marijuana was coming from inside, police said.
Glover was later searched and found with $1,795 in currency. In his pockets he also had a small bag of suspected marijuana and 10 pills of what appeared to be the psychoactive drug ecstasy, police said.
Roberts, too, had a small amount of suspected marijuana on him, police said.
While doing inventory of the car, police allegedly found a Mason jar containing 12 bags of marijuana and a plastic bottle with two marijuana buds in it.
Also in the car, police found a 9 mm pistol that was previously reported stolen to state police. The gun had a live round in the chamber and nine more rounds in the magazine.
As part of the plea, Roberts waived any right to claim the forfeited property, including the cash and the gun, and said in court that other than an already deactivated cell phone, the items were not his anyway.
