McCandless

Ralph D. McCandless, 88, of Zelienople died Thursday morning at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Marshall Township.

Born in Mars, Jan. 26, 1920, he was the son of Charles Arthur and Myrtle Violet Davison McCandless.

He retired as a laborer for J&R Emrick Fabricating in Ellwood City.

Mr. McCandless was a charter member of New Sewickley Presbyterian Church.

He was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II and received a Silver Star for his service during the Battle of the Bulge.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Renfrew McCandless, who he married Feb. 5, 1947; a son, Donald McCandless and his wife, Debbie, of Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Linda Bauer and her husband, Gary, of Cranberry Township and Andrea Altenhoff and her husband, Bob, of Homeworth, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Webster, and three brothers, Charles Lester, Howard and William Dean McCandless.

<B>MCCANDLESS </B>— Friends of Ralph D. McCandless, who died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at New Sewickley Presbyterian Church, 101 Big Knob Road, Rochester, with the Rev. Thomas Clyde officiating. Everyone is to meet at the church. Burial will be in Mars Cemetery, Adams Township.Memorials may be made to the building fund of the church.Directions and condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
