HARRISBURG — A bill that would provide $4 million to help create or expand community-based health care clinics in Pennsylvania is on its way to Gov. Tom Corbett.

The state Senate passed the bill unanimously Tuesday, and the House passed it unanimously last week.

Under the bill, the Department of Health would distribute grants to community-based health care clinics in Pennsylvania. The bill's sponsor, Republican Sen. Edwin Erickson, says Corbett included $4 million for the program in his proposed budget.

Erickson says clinics play an increasingly important role in the health care system. He says they deliver high-quality care, regardless of someone's ability to pay, and they help cut health care costs by treating people at a lower cost than emergency rooms and hospitals.
