A Penn Township man is facing DUI and other charges after witnesses told state police he wrecked his motorcycle and then hid in the woods.

Nicholas Dav Kristophel, 36, of Renfrew, was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence, resisting arrest, false identification, disorderly conduct and institutional vandalism, and four summary traffic violations following the Aug. 28 incident.

State police troopers were dispatched around 7:42 p.m. to the area of 346 Spithaler School Road in Forward Township for a report of a single vehicle motorcycle crash. They were told the driver fled and ran into the woods behind T.J’s Hideaway, according to an affidavit.

One of the troopers allegedly found Kristophel laying in the wood line around 7:57 p.m. and took him into custody, noting he appeared highly intoxicated, smelled of alcohol and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, according to the report.

Police said while being taken to the parking lot, he repeatedly pulled away from the troopers and refused to identify himself. His bike did not have a license plate, but he was listed as the registered owner.

Witnesses told police Kristophel was in their vehicle and they were going to drive him home. However, he got out of the vehicle, got on the bike, drove about 25 feet into the street, crashed and then fled into the woods, according to the affidavit.

Police said once in the police patrol vehicle, Kristophel refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test and spat numerous times on the back of the seats and on the vehicle’s computer.

His preliminary hearing has been schedule for Oct. 21 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz
