Incarcerated man accused of spitting on corrections officers after being pepper sprayed
A man incarcerated in Butler County Prison is facing charges of aggravated harassment by a prisoner after he allegedly spit on two guards and made them believe he has a communicable disease, according to county detectives.
Michael David Sheffield Jr., 45, was charged Oct. 5 with two felony counts of aggravated harassment by a prisoner following a July 15 incident.
Detectives said corrections officers were attempting to transport Sheffield to the restricted housing unit when he refused to comply. Officers then sprayed him with pepper spray.
After Sheffield was sprayed, police said he spat on the back of the neck of one officer and the leg of the other. He then made a statement that made the officers believe he has a communicable disease, detectives said.
Sheffield’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, before District Judge William Fullerton. He remains in Butler County Prison.
