Jane Adella Barkley
Jane Adella Cranmer Barkley, 92, of Butler, formerly of Slippery Rock and Tavares, Fla., died Thursday at 8:10 p.m. at Sunnyview Home in Butler.
Born Aug. 27, 1915, in Mount Chestnut, she was the daughter of John Burton Cranmer and Agnes Annalena Patterson.
She graduated from Slippery Rock Normal School, now called Slippery Rock University, and taught elementary school in the Franklin Township, Meadville (Crawford County) and Slippery Rock area schools.
She married L. Wayne Barkley on Oct. 12, 1935.
Mrs. Barkley was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Grove City) and Slippery Rock Welcome Wagon.
She was the coordinator, active organizer and fundraiser for the start-up funding to launch WQED in Pittsburgh.
Surviving are two sons, Richard and his wife, Joan A. Barkley of Minneapolis, Minn., and Thomas L. and his wife, Dianne L. Barkley of Birchwood, Wis.; one daughter, Ms. Jeanne Barkley of Jersey Shore, Pa.; one sister, Mary Huff of Saxonburg; two brothers, John B. and his wife, Joanne Cranmer of Mount Chestnut and Clarence J. and his wife, Delores Cranmer of Lake Mary,Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died May 26, 1976; one sister, Agnes Cowan; and one brother, Charles Cranmer.
