SLIPPERY ROCK — Students at Slippery Rock University and the 13 other state-owned institutions will pay a bit more in tuition next year after the State System of Higher Education on Thursday approved an increase.

In a press release, the board called the increase of $89 per semester for the 2016-17 academic year “the smallest percentage increase in more than a decade.”

The 2.5 percent increase means that most full-time students from Pennsylvania will pay $3,619 per semester, or $7,238 for the full year of tuition costs.

Tuition for undergraduate, nonresident students also will increase by 2.5 percent and will range from $10,858 to $18,096 for the academic year.

In a statement Thursday, SRU President Cheryl Norton called the increase “moderate” and she thanked the board for “allow(ing) Slippery Rock University to continue to provide a high-quality, affordable education.”
