Mae Ellen Allison, 89, of Slippery Rock, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Born Aug. 6, 1936, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Hazel (Twentier) Grossman.

Mae married Richard “Lee” Allison on June 16, 1954. They were married for 48 years and had three children, Cindy, Ricky and Brenda. Lee preceded her in death on May 6, 2002.

Mae and Lee were avid campers for years with both their families, making lasting memories for them and their children. Mae worked over 30 years for the Slippery Rock Area School District, retiring in 1997, as the cafeteria manager at Slippery Rock Area Elementary.

Mae prided herself on being independent and lived in the home she and Lee had built and raised their family. She enjoyed fire hall fish fries, local church spaghetti and soup dinners, camp bingo nights and playing cards and board games with her family and friends.

Mae is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Ronald) Taggart and Brenda (Carl) Shilling; six grandchildren, Travis (Megan) Taggart, Jared McFadden, Jacob Shilling, Alex Shilling, Abraham Allison and Abigail Allison; two great grandchildren, Rylan and Reed Taggart; three sisters, Lucille (Gary) Heeter, Ginny (Kenny) Stitt and Barb Bicehouse; and two sisters-in-law, Verna Allen and Jennie Allison.

In addition to her husband and parents; she was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Allison; and two sisters, Mary Watson and Ruth Grossman.

ALLISON — Per her wishes, there will be no public visitation or service for Mae Ellen Allison, who died Monday, July 13, 2026.

Interment is private and will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Slippery Rock Fire and Rescue Team, 162 Elm St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057.

Arrangements have been entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock.
