SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Area School District board passed its final general fund budget for the 2026-27 school year along with a millage increase of 1.9 mills.

The final budget shows expenditures sitting at $40,373,120 and revenue at $40,107,810, bringing the deficit down by about $100,000 from the preliminary budget’s prediction.

A 1.9 mill increase will bring the total millage rate for the district to 112.65 mills. One mill is equal to a $1 tax for every $1,000 of a property’s value. Property taxes will garner $15,700,712 in revenue for the school year.

“That millage, based upon medium homestead value, works out to $34.53 for the average household per year,” Board Member Gregory Schiller said.

Schiller said the biggest cost increases are in payroll, benefits and special education. There are savings coming from additional cuts and lower utilization.

The budget was passed via roll call vote with eight members approving and Board Member Katee Gearhart opposing.
