Diane Hunter's responses to questions by the Butler Eagle were not published with other candidates for the Moniteau School Board. Here are her answers.Diane HunterWest Main StreetEau ClaireOccupation: Wife and mother

Family: Married, with 4 children

Government experience: Three years as Moniteau School Board Director and VoTech Joint Operating Committee member

QUESTION: Why did you decide to run for a seat?Hunter: I would like to continue to keep Moniteau moving forward and to continue to provide a positive, effective difference concerning students and with the community.

QUESTION: What are the top three issues facing your school district?HUNTER: 1. Finding cost-effective use of stimulus monies that will continue to provide our students with the best education and our staff with the tools to be able to provide high academic achievement success.2. The challenge of our budget, with the uncertainty of the economy and with the challenges we face with the federal and state declining funds; keeping our pencils sharpened, spend wisely and responsibly to keep taxes to a minimum while continuing to provide a high standard of quality education in the district and to maintain our commitment to continued continuity of staff and administration.3. Improving the district's communication with students and the community.

QUESTION: Should details of an early-bird contract with teachers be presented to the public far enough in advance of a vote to allow for public comment?HUNTER: Yes. When early-bird discussions are concluded, taxpayers should be afforded the financial information and the details of the discussions so when a public forum is provided the taxpayers would be able to offer feedback to both sides.School board directors are elected to represent the views of the taxpayers and therefore they should be allowed time for that feedback so directors can make good decisions.
