Vacancy remains on Evans City Borough Council
EVANS CITY — An empty seat will remain on Evans City Borough Council for at least one more month, as no one stepped forward offering to fill the vacancy left by former Supervisor Rob Reppert, who resigned last month.
In response, as dictated by the Pennsylvania’s Borough Code, council set up a temporary vacancy board during the monthly meeting on Monday night, June 1, with the intent of filling Reppert’s former seat. Joe McCombs, the borough’s public safety director, was designated as chair of the vacancy board.
“It’s basically to see what kind of people have an interest and get them in here so that we can talk with them,” said council President Cheri Deener-Kohan.
According to chapter 9 of Title 8, the Boroughs & Incorporated Towns statute of the Pennsylvania Code, a vacancy board must be convened if a borough fails to fill a vacancy after 30 days of the vacancy becoming open. The board must consist of the members of borough council — minus the mayor — plus one registered elector of the borough who is not on council. The elector — McCombs, in this case — will not be allowed to nominate himself to fill the vacancy.
The board will have 15 days to fill the council vacancy.
