Butler man sentenced in hammer assault
A Butler man was sentenced Friday in Butler County Common Pleas Court for hitting a man with a hammer in his Franklin Township apartment.
Travis J. Zaborowski, 36, was sentenced to serve 5 to 23 1/2 months in the Butler County Prison followed by 24 months of probation, pay $600 in fines and complete 40 hours of community service after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor simple assault charges.
State police filed charges against Zaborowski after arriving at the apartment June 13 and finding a man who was struck twice in the head and once in the torso with a hammer. The man had a significant laceration to the left side of his head, significant bleeding to his mouth, a missing tooth, a broken tooth and a red mark on his torso, police said.
Police said they then found Zaborowski in an apartment holding a hammer.
He was initially charged with two counts of aggravated assault and simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime and harassment.
Judge Maura Palumbi ordered Zaborowski, who was being held in the county jail and sentenced remotely, to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and not to contact the victim.
In a second case, Zaborowski was sentenced to concurrently serve another 5 to 23 1/2 months in prison, and complete 40 more hours of community service and pay a $100 fine after pleading guilty to a felony evading arrest charge filed by Butler police following a June 17 incident.
