A GoFundMe has been set up for a 96-year-old woman and her adult son who lost their home in a fire Tuesday morning, May 5, in Summit Township.

Crews battled a trailer fire in the 100 block of Hyvue Lane, located off North Osche Road, that ended in a total loss of the structure.

Both occupants evacuated without injury.

Kassie Lynn Flanders, the granddaughter of the woman, who she identified as Irene Lipscomb, 96, established the GoFundMe Tuesday. As of Tuesday evening, it had raised $560 toward a $4,000 goal.

“In a matter of moments, she lost her home, her clothing and all of her personal belongings. While we are incredibly grateful that she is safe, she is now left with nothing and facing the overwhelming task of starting over from scratch at her age,” Flanders wrote in the fundraiser’s description.

She said Lipscomb has been a “pillar of strength and kindness” who spent her life caring for others. Funds raised will be dedicated toward basic necessities, such as clothing, shelter and other everyday essentials.

“Your generosity will help her find comfort and stability in the days ahead. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference during this difficult time,” Flanders wrote.
