Child porn charges filed

A Butler County man was arrested this week for allegedly possessing child pornography and sharing it online.

Mitchell L. Vlassich, 38, of Butler is accused of downloading and distributing child porn through a peer-to-peer file-sharing network, said agents with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

Vlassich, who was arraigned Tuesday on 15 felony charges, is being held in the Butler County Prison on $75,000 bail.

Undercover agents investigating the online distribution of child pornography in April found three graphic video files depicting children between the ages of 6 and 14 and traced the IP address associated with the files to Vlassich’s apartment in the 100 block of West Jefferson Street.

According to court documents, investigators Tuesday executed a search warrant at the home and allegedly turned up a computer with numerous images of child pornography.

Vlassich initially denied wrongdoing but eventually admitted to searching for and downloading child pornography during the past year, authorities said.

He allegedly acknowledged watching pornography depicting children, some as young as 4 years old, two or three times a week.

Vlassich is charged with three counts of disseminating child pornography, 10 counts of possessing child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.

A preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. Monday at the office of District Judge Pete Shaffer in Butler.
