Street repairs, data centers discussed at Harmony meeting Tuesday

Ongoing upgrades to Harmony’s Spring Street and the potential need for a data center ordinance were discussed at the borough’s Tuesday, Oct. 6, meeting, according to Greg Such, borough council president.

Spring Street updates

Drainage repair work on Spring Street in the borough his complete, clearing the way for planned improvements, Such said.

Four blocks of the street will be paved using multimodal grant funds from the state’s Department of Community and Economic Development.

“We had a failure there, and we needed to fix it before we got to the multimodal grant,” Such said.

Council voted to apply for the grant at its Aug. 4 meeting in the amount of $900,000. The application was partially approved for $384,000, Such said. The funds will be used for paving and sidewalks on Spring Street.

The work is associated with a recently completed stormwater project in the borough.

Data center ordinance

Borough council also discussed if there needs to be a data center ordinance in Harmony.

Such said zoning restrictions are already in place, lowering chances of a new data center. Additionally, not much space is available in the borough for this type of a facility to begin with.

“We're pretty small and built out, so there’s not a lot of large space left,” Such said.

With every municipality required to establish its own ordinance on the matter, he said, “we decided that we would work on (an ordinance), but it wasn’t a particularly high priority at the moment.”
