North Allegheny holds off Mercer, SV in tournament
BUTLER TWP - The North Allegheny School District won the Armstrong Academic Challenge on April 2 at Butler County Community College.
It was the school's fifth victory in nine years of the event.
Mercer High School was runner-up, with Seneca Valley High School and Connellsville High School sharing third place. Seneca Valley is a three-time champion of the event.
Students from the final four teams will receive U.S. Savings Bonds, and all teams earned scholarship money for use by their schools.
North Allegheny beat Mercer during the third round of the championship match, winning 48-10.
The event, which lasted nine hours, was seen live on Armstrong cable system, serving the Meadville, Grove City, Zelienople, Butler and Connellsville areas. The event is co-sponsored by BC3.
Matches will be rebroadcast several times on Armstrong local Channel 10. The semi-finals and championship will be aired on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN).
