Butler County has an unusually high number of golf courses.

That’s a good thing, said Experience Butler County president Amy Pack. There is something for all kinds of golfers: from youth to first-timers, to league golfers to die-hards who travel the region and country.

“I think we have exceptional courses here in Butler County,” Pack said. “I think there’s something for everyone. … It’s really great to try them all and perhaps try one they haven’t in the past.”

Experience Butler County works with and promotes 11 golf courses and facilities, including: All About Golf, Buffalo Golf Course, Conley Resort & Golf Club, Cranberry Highlands Golf Course, Hiland Golf Course, Lake Arthur Golf Club, Mars-Bethel Golf, Slippery Rock Golf Club, Strawberry Ridge Golf Course, Suncrest Golf & Grille, The Turn Club.

Some, like All About Golf and The Turn Club, have “great simulators.” Cranberry Highlands provides a challenging course. Pack believes all the courses can be a good fit for new golfers.

Experience Butler County also likes to highlight its courses — along with other tourism opportunities like wineries, breweries, dining, shopping and more — during major national events like its experienced the past two years.

The U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club last year gave the county a “boost,” Pack said, and she’s hopeful the same will happen this weekend when the NFL draft comes to Pittsburgh and thousands visit the region. She hopes visitors “take some time up here” to explore.

“We’re all in the region kind of curious to see what folks will do,” Pack said.

Perhaps that will parlay into more interest in the area’s golf scene, either for out-of-town visitors or residents who haven’t tried one or more of the courses available. Pack believes a “really strong summer” is in store, especially with the spring weather finally starting to heat up.

People new to the sport looking for a course to play should “talk to each individual club and ask them about the right level (to get them interested in the sport),” she said.

And she encourages anyone to give golf a try or try something, or somewhere, new.

“Golf is one of those sports that is for all ages,” Pack said. “I do believe there’s younger people really getting interested in the sport, and women’s golf has really piqued and interest as well.”

This is part of a series of promotional articles on Butler County-area golf courses.
