BC3 plans technology upgrade
BUTLER TWP — To upgrade technology and facilities, Butler County Community College will borrow $500,000.
The money will be used to buy more than 100 computers, five smart rooms, printers, projectors and other items.
The board of trustees approved the loan on Wednesday.
About $170,000 will be used for building renovations. Boilers will be replaced in two buildings, and an air conditioning unit and a furnace will be installed.
Also, after extensive renovations to the former Convocation Center, the college will buy furniture for newly renamed Founders Hall.
President Cynthia Azari said before the renovations to the hall were done, officials made a list of project priorities. The projects that were approved were those that were ranked in poor condition, she said.
The college is working on a plan to assess the facilities and replace and update them on a rotation, she said.
The college will borrow the money from the State Public School Building Authority's Revolving Loan Fund. The five-year loan has a 4.71 percent interest rate.
