Winfield Township hoping to start on park upgrades by summer
WINFIELD TWP — Work is expected to commence on a long-awaited renovation to the Winfield Township Community Park later this year, according to Marla Klabnik, who serves on the township’s park advisory board.
Klabnik said work on the first phase of the renovation could start as soon as this summer or fall depending on how soon the township can acquire the necessary permits for development and grading from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Phase one of the renovation project includes the addition of a combination basketball/pickleball court and an additional, shorter walking trail to add to the 1.2-mile trail already present at the park.
“We're going to make a little shorter trail, so people don’t have to walk the whole thing,” Klabnik said.
Plans for the park also include a pollinator habitat meadow, a nine-hole disc golf course and a “storybook walk” in partnership with the South Butler Community Library. The latter two projects are also Eagle Scout projects.
“We should break ground in probably midsummer to fall depending on when the permits come through,” Klabnik said. “Because we’re moving so much soil and everything, we need permits to make sure everything’s safe.”
