Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is warning those who use MyChart, an online patient portal used by many hospitals and healthcare providers, to be aware of a phishing scam targeting patients.

According to a news release, scammers are impersonating MyChart by sending emails or text messages that offer patients a chance to claim a “MyChart Medicare Kit.” No such program or reward exists.

These emails and text messages are attempts by malicious parties to trick recipients into clicking on fraudulent links to obtain passwords and personal information from patients and gain access to their MyChart portals.

The attorney general’s office said not to reply and to delete suspicious emails or texts without opening attachments or clicking links — including the unsubscribe button. Patients should only use the official MyChart website or app.
