New D-BAT indoor baseball training facility planned for Cranberry Township

CRANBERRY TWP — Butler County’s budding baseball superstars may soon have another opportunity to hone their skills all year long.

D-BAT, a nationwide chain of indoor baseball and softball training facilities, is planning to add a location at West Kensinger Drive in Cranberry Township. The township’s planning advisory commission recommended approval of a request for a conditional use permit for the facility, sending it to the township’s board of supervisors for their approval.

According to Adam Wood, of Guardian Construction, the facility will encompass 21,000 square feet of space.

“The area will have 17 keycard-operated batting cages and three pitching tunnels, as well as a conference room, a party room and a fully stocked pro shop by Rawlings,” Wood said. “Two staff members will generally be on site at all times.”

The D-BAT facility would be located inside an existing commercial facility on West Kensinger Drive. The site is also occupied by Suburban Insulation, Curbell Plastics and medical equipment manufacturer Cadence.

The first D-BAT location opened in 1998 in Addison, Texas. Since then, the chain has grown to over 200 locations across the United States and has extended across the Pacific Ocean with a number of locations in China. There is already one D-BAT location in the Pittsburgh area, on Industrial Boulevard in Bethel Park, and another is planned for Export in Westmoreland County.
