Helen Elsie McNees
Helen Elsie McNees, 93, of Slippery Rock died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Home2Me in Slippery Rock.
Born in Hillsville, Lawrence County, Dec. 10, 1916, she was the daughter of Roy Oscar Eaton and Mary Louella Queer.
She was married to Russell Paul McNees, who died in November 1976.
She was a member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She had been a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Kings Daughters class of the church.
She retired in 1981 from the First National Bank of Slippery Rock, where she worked for more than 25 years.
She helped start the Slippery Rock Salvation Army with Chuck Dickey many years ago. She enjoyed gardening, golfing and bowling.
She was a member of the Slippery Rock AARP, the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary and the Democratic Women's Club, and she had served Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed family and friends and had the experience of bowling a perfect game and hitting a hole-in-one at Green Meadows Golf Course.
Surviving are a son, Russell P. McNees and his wife, Janet, of Latrobe; a daughter, Barbara J. Kelly of Slippery Rock; and a sister, Dorothy Brown and husband, Wilbur, of Albion. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Michele DeMarco, Megan McCormick, Melissa McNees, Sheryl Kelly and Colleen Dyback; seven great¿grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Ethel Laird, Virginia Manning, Ruth Smith and Grace Croll; and two brothers, Oscar Eaton and Theodore Eaton.
<B>MCNEES</B> — Visitation for Helen Elsie McNees, who died Thursday, May 20, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Pamela Gardner, pastor of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the West Liberty Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Slippery Rock United Methodist Church or Home2Me, both in Slippery Rock.
