Getz

Richard E. "Dick" Getz, 78, of Cranberry Township died peacefully Saturday.

Born Aug. 13, 1931, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Verner E. and Alma (Duman) Getz.

Mr. Getz served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded two Bronze Service Stars and a Combat Infantryman Badge.

He was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Cranberry Township" for his friendly waves to passers-by.

Mr. Getz loved family picnics and the outdoors, especially the hot summer weather. He also loved his dogs, Tiny, Snoopy and Heidi, and his parrot, Fred. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his brother, Verner W. Getz of Sarver; two sisters, June Hunter and her husband, John P., of Cranberry Township and Rita Getz of Sarver; his companion, Barbara Brown of New Kensington and her children, Stephanie Cable and Glenn Brown; and two grandchildren, Raymond Cable and Connor Brown. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Clyde and Douglas Getz; and three sisters, Jean McGibbeny, Grace Getz and Evelyn Kirchartz.

"Dick" Getz, who died Saturday, May 22, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home & Cremation Services</B>, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township. A blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
