It troubles me greatly that Butler County Sheriff Mike Slupe has been providing assistance to the federal agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The undisciplined actions of inadequately trained agents of ICE are resulting in tragic consequences throughout the country. The deaths of two American citizens who were exercising their constitutional rights in Minnesota are the most obvious. But there have also been an exceedingly high number of deaths in immigration detention facilities.

I strongly object to the use of my tax dollars to support such activities. Sheriff Slupe is exposing Butler County to an unnecessarily risky situation by aligning himself and his deputies with federal agents who have an atrocious track record. The current activities of ICE are not about safety; they are discriminatory and unlawful.
