Craig Keener is a new reporter at the Butler Eagle.
He will cover the northwest area of Butler County, including Slippery Rock borough and township and Slippery Rock University.
He is a May 2009 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in journalism.
Keener, 23, of Cranberry Township is a 2005 graduate of Seneca Valley High School.
He replaces Stephanie Rex.
CRANBERRY TWP — Traco has manufactured more than 1,900 windows as part of the $55 million semihistoric complete renovation of Eastern High School in Washington, D.C.The steel building with a brick facade was constructed in 1932 and upgraded in the 1980s. The exterior of the building is being retained, while the interior of the building has been completely redesigned.The renovation project is expected to be done by July.
PA Free Enterprise Week is looking for students who want to have a business learning experience on a college campus for a week this summer.Students will learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, leadership and communication. Business people from throughout the state will provide lessons about the American free enterprise system.The program takes place on the campus of Lycoming College for three weeks and the Pennsylvania College of Technology for one week in Williamsport. Graduates are entitled to a $20,000 scholarship to Lycoming College and a $4,000 scholarship to PA College of Technology if they are accepted at either institution.For information, high school juniors and sophomores should go to their high school guidance office or to www.pfew.org.This is the second year NexTier, based in Evans City, has provided scholarships for this program.Students from these school districts attended via NexTier's 2009 contributions: Butler, Knoch, Mars, North Allegheny, Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley and Slippery Rock.More than 1,400 students statewide attended last year.
SAXONBURG — II-VI dropped its bid for the Connecticut company Zygo.II-VI made an unsolicited $169.4 million bid for the company in January, which Zygo's board of directors rejected.In a news release, Francis Kramer, II-VI's president and CEO, said because of Zygo's board's unease with the bid, "we have decided to withdraw our offer for Zygo and instead focus on our existing business and other strategic opportunities available to II-VI."
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — H&R Block on Monday said its fiscal third quarter profit rose 7 percent, as lower costs offset a revenue drop that stemmed from handling fewer returns.For the three months ended Jan. 31, the nation's largest tax preparer earned $50.6 million, or 15 cents per share, compared with $47.4 million, or 14 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.Revenue fell 6 percent to $934.9 million from $993.4 million last year.From staff and wire reports
