John Joseph Johnson, 56, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at his home.

John grew up in Butler, where he faithfully served his community for years as a city police officer. He retired as a lieutenant. Most recently, he worked as a detective for the County District Attorney’s Office.

As an avid golfer, John could frequently be found on the green. He also loved playing the drums and watching sports, especially the Steelers.

John is survived by his nephew, Christopher (Kimberly) Miller, and his niece, Heather (Matthew) Clement. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, friends, and his beloved dog, Ollie.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia (Richard) Miller; and his parents, John and Helen Johnson.

JOHNSON — A viewing for John Johnson, who died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
