North Catholic’s season came to an end a win short of playing for a state title.

District 10 champion Cathedral Prep beat the Trojanettes, the WPIAL champions, 3-1 Saturday morning at Hershey Racquet Club in the PIAA Class 2A Girls Tennis Team Tournament semifinals.

Claire Elliott and Gabby Kress won NC’s only point, a 6-2, 6-2 decision in Doubles 2. Evie Marche and Macaria Stall lost the Singles 1 and Singles 2 matches.

Peyton Beck and Noah Weiland are both heading to the PIAA Cross Country Championships next week at Big Spring High School.

Beck, a Moniteau senior, finished fifth in the District 8/9/10 subregional Class 1A boys championship race at Ridgway High School with a time of 17:08.3. Weiland, a Karns City senior, came in eighth in 17:27.1.

Moniteau girls senior Alexis Kirschner qualified for states, as well, with a 12th-place finish in Class 1A, running a 21:15.8.

The Warriors girls finished sixth out of seven teams. KC’s boys finished seventh and Moniteau 10th out of 11 teams.

One Slippery Rock runner will also make the trip east. Freshman Sophia Gearhart came in ninth in girls 2A with a time of 19:24. The Rockets finished sixth out of 13 teams, while the boys finished 14th out of 18 and did not produce an individual state qualifier.
