No tax increase in Connoquenessing Township budget

Connoquenessing Township supervisors adopted a 2026 budget that does not include a tax increase.

In a 2-0 vote Dec. 29, supervisors approved a balanced $1.2 million spending plan that maintains the 1.75-mill real estate tax, 3-mill fire protection tax and .95-mill fire hydrant tax. Only residents who live near a hydrant are assessed the hydrant tax.

Supervisor Angela Fleeger said she and Supervisor Bruce Steinhiser voted in favor of the budget. Supervisor Ricky Kradel, was not present at the meeting.

“We were able to balance the budget without a tax increase, which is a win for the residents within our community. I appreciate everybody’s efforts in getting this passed,” Fleeger said.

Anticipated revenue includes $700,000 from earned income taxes, $76,384 from real estate taxes, $130,943 from the fire tax and $24,700 from the hydrant tax.

Major expenditures include $221,000 in gross payroll for the road crew, $110,000 for employee health insurance, $110,000 for the secretary/treasurer’s salary, $72,629 for snow and ice removal materials, $60,000 for the Act 537 sewer planning engineer, $50,000 for highway maintenance supplies and $45,000 for tool and machinery repairs.

The budget includes $150,000 in revenue from Act 13 impact fees imposed on natural gas wells and $20,000 in interest from the fees. The combined $170,000 has been allocated for capital equipment purchases.

The receipt of $186,535 in Liquid Fuels Tax revenue from the state will be combined with other Liquid Fuels funding and interest to pay for $199,775 in road resurfacing projects, according to the budget.
