New charges filed against man charged with May 2024 robbery
New charges have been filed against one of two men already facing multiple felony charges for a May 2024 incident in which they are accused of breaking into an elderly woman’s home in Brady Township and burglarizing it after tying her up.
Herbert D. Zellefrow, 54, of Butler, has been charged with three felony counts of possession of a prohibited firearm and one count of criminal conspiracy/conduct, in addition to charges already filed against him for the incident.
The additional charges stem from burglary convictions against Zellefrow that state police uncovered dating back to 1993. He previously pleaded guilty to two separate burglaries in Bell County, Texas, and served 14 years in prison.
Due to the previous convictions, Zellefrow was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm in 2024 when the Brady Township burglary occurred.
In that incident, Zellefrow was charged with robbery, burglary, terroristic threats with intent to terrorize, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and six counts of theft by unlawful taking, among other charges.
On May 5, 2024, police said Zellefrow and then-28-year-old Damean Felmlee visited the home of an 82-year-old Brady Township woman under the pretense of asking her to sign a gun rights petition, which she declined. Afterward, the pair asked to use her house phone, telling her their vehicle had broken down.
According to police, the following morning, the pair returned to the woman’s house armed with guns. According to an affidavit, the pair zip-tied the woman’s hands behind her back, held her at gunpoint and took $10,000 from her bedroom dresser. The pair also allegedly stole multiple firearms, prescription Vicodin, two telephone handsets and jewelry.
According to police, after they left her residence, the woman was able to free herself and call 911.
Zellefrow is currently being held in Butler County Prison, with bail set at $1,000,000.
According to the affidavit, there is also an active warrant for Zellefrow from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office in Oklahoma dating back to August 2014 for unlawful possession of a firearm.
