Seneca Valley girls soccer seems to catch teams that aren’t what their seedings suggest at this time in the state tournament.

Saturday in the PIAA Class 4A quarterfinals at Chambersburg High School, the Raiders found themselves facing another District 1 fifth seed that was much better than that number indicated, losing 3-1 to Central Bucks East.

Last year, SV’s season came to an end against 1-5 Conestoga, the eventual state runner-up, in the same round and at the same site.

“It doesn’t take away our season,” Raiders head coach Mark Perry said on the phone after the game while the boys team was playing.

No, it does not.

Seneca Valley (13-5-2) was once again a WPIAL runner-up, and Perry pointed out its losses this year came against some of the WPIAL and state’s best teams: North Allegheny (twice), Fox Chapel, Cumberland Valley and now CB East.

Taylor Roumy recorded a hat trick against SV in this one, one of two forwards, along with sophomore Mia Forney, Perry said were arguably the best his team has faced all year.

But the Raiders had multiple close chances, cashing in on one of them when Cassie Leonard took a feed from Karly Majeski and ripped a shot off the cross bar that bounced behind the line to make it 2-1 CB East in the first half.

Majeski nearly repeated the feat with seconds before intermission, but her shot off the cross bar bounced back into play and SV entered halftime down 2-1.

“We had a string of about four or five nice passes,” Perry said. “(If it had been) 2-2 at half, I think it might’ve been different.”

The Raiders lose five seniors who played key roles in recent years, including Majeski, Leonard, Bella Gianfrancesco and postseason hero Madeline Marcotte, who had multiple goals in the playoffs after just one in the regular season.

The Patriots (20-4) will face WPIAL champion and SV rival North Allegheny (19-3-2), which beat District 1 runner-up Downingtown West 2-1 in overtime, in Tuesday’s semifinal at a site and time to be determined.
