DUI charges filed in connection with crash along Butler’s Main Street, another man seriously injured
A Wellsboro man tested positive for cocaine following a high-speed, multivehicle crash along Butler’s Main Street on Sept. 14 that caused another driver and himself to be flown to Pittsburgh hospitals.
David P. Marble III, 39, has been charged with felony aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence as well as misdemeanor driving under the influence and summary disobeying traffic control devices and reckless driving.
Marble was taken by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital for undisclosed injuries, while the driver of another vehicle, identified as Brent Hoelzer, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for serious bodily injuries.
Police responded to the crash at around 8 p.m. near the intersection of North Main and Jefferson streets in downtown Butler, finding a three-vehicle crash that included a silver Kia driven by Marble, a black Ford driven by Hoelzer and a parked vehicle.
Eyewitnesses told police that the Kia traveled northbound down Main Street at “a high rate of speed” and maneuvered around vehicles stopped at the red light at the intersection with Jefferson Street. According to a police affidavit, the witnesses said the Kia proceeded into the intersection and collided with the Ford, which was proceeding into the intersection with a green light.
The crash caused the Ford to spin around to face southbound, police said. The Kia and Ford were observed with heavy damage, police said.
According to the affidavit, Marble admitted to a Butler Ambulance Service employee that he had recently used cocaine, prompting police to obtain a search warrant for Marble’s medical records from Allegheny General.
The medical records showed Marble had, indeed, tested positive for cocaine.
A preliminary hearing for Marble has yet to be scheduled before District Judge William Fullerton.
