Celebrating survivors
CRANBERRY TWP — Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute will celebrate cancer survivors on Saturday with the 13th annual Healing Journey event.
The free event is for those who have survived cancer or are fighting cancer, and their guests.
This year’s speaker is Karen Mills, a comedian who offers humor on a difficult topic.
“It’s called the ‘Healing Journey,’ and I think laughter should be a part of that journey,” Mills said.
Mills, who battled ovarian cancer in 2013, will share her own cancer story.
“Comedy is a natural way for me to cope,” Mills said.
She started her career as a comedian more than 20 years ago when she participated in an open mike night.
Mills, a Tennessee native, said she watched “Tonight” show host Johnny Carson, and said, “I know I can do that.”
The Saturday event will include a chair yoga session and complimentary breakfast and lunch.
Artwork by cancer survivors will be displayed at the event.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Doubletree Hilton. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
