Inmate accused of assaulting 2 corrections officers

A Butler County Prison inmate is facing multiple charges in connection to an alleged assault Sept. 8.

Stephen Call, 28, was charged Tuesday, Sept. 23, with one count of felony assault of facility employee by prisoner, two felony counts of aggravated harassment by prisoner and one misdemeanor count of simple assault, after police say he spit at and hit two corrections officers while being escorted around various parts of the facility.

Call was in the Diagnostic Classification Unit when he became confrontational, according to an affidavit.

After throwing a chair that was caught by an officer, Call went back to his cell and was in the process of being moved to another unit when he spit at and struck an officer in the upper chest, police said.

According to the affidavit, Call then began yelling obscenities and resisting officers while being escorted to the Restricted Housing Unit.

While in the unit’s shower area, Call spit at an officer and struck him in the chest, police said. When another officer came over to assist, Call also spit on him and struck him in the face, neck and chest area, according to the affidavit.

A preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled in front of District Judge William Fullerton.
