State police report increase in crashes, DUIs over Labor Day weekend
State police report an increase in crashes and DUI crashes and arrests over the Labor Day weekend.
From Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, state police investigated 747 crashes that resulted in 129 injuries and six deaths. Impaired driving was a factor in 64 of those crashes, two of which were fatal. Troopers made 535 DUI arrests and issued 6,860 speeding citations, 147 child seat citations, 776 seat belt citations and 16,399 other citations.
During last year’s four-day Labor Day weekend, troopers investigated 678 crashes that resulted in 142 injuries. Impaired driving was a factor in 60 of those crashes that included three fatalities. Troopers made 500 DUI arrests and issued 7,356 speeding citations, 129 child seat citations, 855 seat belt citations and 16,322 other citations.
