John H. Schneidmiller
The Rev. John H. Schneidmiller, 82, of Cabot, formerly of Butler, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday in Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
He was born Feb. 12, 1929, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to the late John C. Schneidmiller and Nettie Marie (Hetzel) Schneidmiller.
Rev. Schneidmiller was an alumnus of Capital University, Class of 1950, and the Lutheran Seminary, Class of 1953, in Philadelphia.
Following seminary, he pastored his first church, St. John's Lutheran Church in Natrona, from 1953 to 1956. From 1957 to 1961, he served the Christ Lutheran Church in West Newton. His last pastorate was in Butler at the First English Lutheran Church, where he served from 1961 to 1977. He had been a supervising pastor at the Rider Lutheran Church, West Sunbury, until 2008.
Following his retirement from pastoring at the First English Lutheran Church in Butler, he became the regional director for Missions Synod of the Lutheran Church in America from 1977 to 1985. From 1985 until 1994, he was the mission director for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. During his professional life in Western Pennsylvania- West Virginia Synod, Rev. Schneidmiller served on various boards and executive committees.
Rev. Schneidmiller is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara, who he married June 25, 1951; four daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Nancy) Laine of Perrysburg, Ohio, Mrs. Gregory E. (Karen) Flinchbaugh of Edinboro, Mrs. Thomas (Gretchen) Gallagher of Saxonburg and Mrs. Jeffrey J. (Debra) Gallagher of Dubois; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Alma) Cunningham of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Mrs. Helen Hall of Columbus, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Mark Schneidmiller and Bob Schneidmiller; two sisters; and one brother.
<B>SCHNEIDMILLER </B>— Friends of John H. Schneidmiller, who died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 310 Main St., Saxonburg, with Pastor Roger Keller officiating.
