Berton Mottern
Berton D. Mottern, 89, of Sarver, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Quality Life Services — Sarver.
Born Jan. 12, 1937, in Oakland Township, he was the son of Orie M. Mottern and Mary Florence (McMillen) Mottern.
Bert served in the U.S. Army in Germany for two years and worked at Equitalbe Gas Co. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Saxonburg.
Surviving are his children; Brian (Carolyn) Mottern of Warfordsburg, Pa., Shawn (Cathy Hunt) Mottern of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Nicole (Louie Bernardo) Mottern of Apollo, Pa.; four grandchildren, Erin (Danny), Timothy (Anna), Olivia (Justin), Katlyn (Andrew); and two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, Beryl, whom he married Aug. 16, 1958.
Bert is remembered fondly for his kindness, work ethic, love of the outdoors, appreciation of John Deere tractors and devotion to his family.
MOTTERN — A memorial service for Berton D. Mottern, who died Tuesday, July 7, 2026, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at the St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Saxonburg, with associate minister, Jeannine Sanford, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St. PO Box 187 Saxonburg, PA 16056.
