Cranberry development responsible, balanced

Guy Miklos’s letter to the editor claiming Cranberry’s development is “out of hand” is wrong. In fact, the township is known to have the strictest development requirements in the state, including rigorous streetscape ordinances, zoning, inspections and impact fees.

Over the past 12 years, Cranberry has grown at a rate of just 1.7% per year — all without a tax increase.

So what’s Mr. Miklos’s issue? He seems to dislike the look of Meeder, a mixed-use development. The Meeder developer expanded Rochester Road from three to five lanes at their own expense. The demand for this style of community led the same developer to plan two more projects.

Developments like Meeder attract young families who want to be part of Cranberry because of our outstanding recreational amenities and green spaces. What Mr. Miklos may not realize is Cranberry has protected more than 3,000 acres from development — more than any other municipality in Butler County.

We’re also enhancing access to these natural areas through our “Greenway” initiative, which connects green spaces with walking and biking trails. Our commitment to recreation continues to grow, as shown by the new “Great Lawn,” funded by community donations, just like the sportcourts, exercise facilities and several playgrounds.

This is America, where the property owner can sell to whomever they want. We cannot stop development, just control it.

Cranberry’s growth is responsible, balanced and built on preserving what makes our community special with excellent quality of life. It’s why people want to move here.

Bruce Mazzoni,

Cranberry Township supervisor
