Let’s take back our government in midterms
Supposedly, with age comes wisdom. At my age, 70s, confusion is replacing it. As were so many Americans, I was raised in a loving family that worked hard and was “character-driven” rather than “grievance-driven.”
School and church reinforced love, generosity, inclusion, forgiveness and learning. Our government was respected and trusted. Our presidents were admired for their character, intelligence, principals, adherence to the Constitution and representation of all Americans. The Fourth of July was a patriotic celebration.
It is with great sadness and disdain that I am reflecting on our current government. At church I hear that Jesus told his followers to, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” while U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is terrorizing, even killing someone’s neighbors. The richest nation in the world is relying on food banks to feed hungry citizens while the economy is ignored, healthcare is reduced, gas prices spike and the Iranian war costs American lives and billions of taxpayer dollars.
The stability of our country and the world has been jeopardized by this administration. Rather than acting in our country’s best interests, they are focused on further enriching the wealthy and family members. Citizens have been taught to distrust each other while embracing views on partisan news outlets.
I am excited for Americans to vote in November. In a democracy, voting is an obligation, not a selfish act of “rebellion.” Let's take back our government in November and have Congress do its job and return to an America “for all the people!”
