Phyllis Ruth Redmond
Phyllis Ruth Redmond, 71, of Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, died at 7 a.m. Friday at UPMC Horizon, Green-ville.
Born March 27, 1936, in Green-ville, she was the daughter of Orval Lee Gilson and Alberta Elizabeth Hittle.
She married Donald Theodore Redmond on July 3, 1958.
Mrs. Redmond was a homemaker and had worked for the past 15 years as a cook at Laurel Elementary School. Earlier in her career she had worked at a laundry in Greenville.
She was a Protestant. She enjoyed playing golf, going bowling, watching NASCAR and fishing.
She is survived by her husband at home; a son, Jay Douglas Redmond of New Castle; two brothers, Orval "Duke" Gilson of Mercer and Alfred "Rube" Gilson of Lebanon, Pa.; a step-brother, Larry Diefenderfer of Enterprise, Ala.; five sisters, Alice, and her husband, Glenn, Glunt of Fredonia, Margaret Schweikert of Hadley, Cathy Amburgey of Lambeth Square, Va., Madylon Bromley of Fredonia, and Sally Patterson of Hot Springs, Ark.; a step-sister, Vonna Murrin of Greenville; and two grandchildren, Matthew, and his wife, Tammi, Redmond of Portersville and Brittany Redmond of New Castle.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Wheaton, and a brother, James Gilson.
<B>REDMOND</B>— Friends of Phyllis Ruth Redmond, who died Friday, April 20, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth L. McDeavitt of New Hope Baptist Church in Saxonburg officiating.Burial will be in Zion Baptist Cemetery in Worth Township.
