Elizabeth Amelia Ries Jeffreys

Elizabeth Amelia Ries Jeffreys, 96, of Butler, formerly of Valencia, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Saxony Health Center.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1918, in Meyersdale, to the late Albert Frederick Ries and Louisa Robinson Ries.

Elizabeth was employed by Kaufman's in Pittsburgh for about 35 years, retiring in 1982.

She was Protestant and belonged to the Eastern Star in McKeesport.

She loved to garden, grow plants and enjoy nature. Elizabeth also enjoyed the hobbies of baking, sewing quilts and clothing and watching her pure-bred Arabian horses, dogs and cats play and frolic on her acreage.

She is survived by her daughter, Valjean Champ and her husband, Ronald; her son, Nathaniel Jeffreys Jr. and his companion, Ann Hays, of Butler; her three grandchildren, Warren Champ and his wife, Kimberly, of Washington, Bethany Champ and her fiance, Mike Graham, of Butler, and Tammy Boice and her husband, Dwight, of Butler; her three great-grandchildren, David Champ, Jeffrey Champ and Brianne Yusko; her brother, Gordon Ries of Baden; her sister, Hilda Von Moose of Somerset, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel O. Jeffreys, who passed away on Jan. 9, 2003; her sister, Beatrice Hicks, and her two brothers, Frederick Ries and Donald Ries.

Jeffreys— The friends of Elizabeth Amelia Ries Jeffreys, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with David R. Champ, great-grandson of the deceased and director of Youth and Family Ministry at the Westfield Presbyterian Church of New Castle, officiating. Entombment will take place in Pinewood Memorial Park, Cranberry Township.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the YWCA of Butler, 120 W.
