Joan Harmon Schnur
Joan Harmon Schnur, 52, of Herman died suddenly Sunday while shopping with her family.
Born Nov. 10, 1956, in Bradys Bend, daughter of James L. and Mary Madden Harmon, she graduated from East Brady High School and from Penn State University with a bachelor of science in nursing. She was a member of the Penn State Alumni Club.
A registered nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital, she was previously the assistant director of nursing at Saxony Health Care Center in Saxonburg and before that director of nursing at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She specialized in geriatric nursing at Penn State.
Married to Jody L. Schnur, July 29, 1989, Joan and Jody had three children, William Patrick, 15; Catherine Marie, 14; and her twin sister, Helen Louise, who died at birth.
The family belongs to St. Peter Church in Butler.
A gifted caregiver, Joan's extended family relied on her for giving "the second opinion" after every doctors' visit, for getting her mother and mother-in-law to their doctors' appointments, for aiding a sister-in-law undergoing chemo, for visiting with shut-in relatives and for the loving attention she gave to the patients in her care at Butler Hospital.
Joan thrived on family gatherings and outings with friends, on travel and on having fun wherever she was. She will be terribly missed by all who loved her spirit, her generosity, her empathy and her sense of adventure.
Joan is survived by her husband, Jody; her son, William; and her daughter, Catherine. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Harmon of Bradys Bend; five brothers and four sisters, Eileen Hout (Michael) of Oakland, Calif., Laurence Harmon (Steffi Domike) of Pittsburgh, Christopher Harmon (Peg) of Tucson Ariz., Virginia Harmon (Robert "Bubba" Pfahler) of Fenelton, Sarah Grove (John) of Tucson, Mark Harmon (Becky) of Lancaster, S.C., Matthew Harmon (Pamela Selby) of Tucson, Bertha Harmon Skye of Tucson and David Harmon of Kittanning; her mother-in-law, Donna M.
