Robert ‘Bob’ Prowel Jr.

Prowel

Robert “Bob” Prowel Jr., 83, of Center Township, passed away at Butler Memorial Hospital in the early hours of Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.

Born Jan. 31, 1943, in Butler, he was the son of the late Bob and Florence Prowel of Institute Hill.

Bob was a 1960 graduate of Butler High School, and went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, and was a graduate of the U.S. Air Force NCO Academy. He was proud of his scouting past and was an Eagle Scout. Bob worked in the telecommunications industry throughout his career, working for United Telephone, IBM, then retiring from ROLM/Siemens.

Bob was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed stock car racing and was a regular fixture at most of the local racetracks. Bob also enjoyed dancing, roller skating, traveling and his daughter's chicken and biscuits. Bob was an only child, and always wanted a big family. He succeeded with that, and above all else, loved and cherished spending his time with all of them.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elaine (Hallman) Prowel, whom he married March 19, 1965; his five children, Robert Prowel III, Brian Powel, Adrienne (Thomas) Ionta, Sereina (Walter) Hehman and Sarah Prowel; his six grandchildren; Gavynne, Connor, Val, Jorgia, Ozzy and Ashleigh (Reed); and his great-grandchild, Penelopea.
