Walter A. Young, 83, of Conroe, Texas, formerly of Houston, Texas, and Chicora, died Monday in Conroe.

He was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Armstrong County.

He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Young was a former grand knight of the Knights of Columbus in Houston, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Spring, Texas, a lifetime member of the VFW and a former usher at St. Edward Catholic Church in Spring.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Young; 10 children; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by a son, two grandsons, two brothers and two sisters.

<B>YOUNG</B>— A memorial Mass for Walter A. Young, who died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Conroe, with the Rev. Hubert Kealy officiating.A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Friday at the church with Nick Thompson, church deacon, conducting.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 100 I-45 North, Suite 300, Conroe, TX 77301; the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718; or the American Heart Association P.O. Box 15186, Austin TX 78761.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Metcalf Funeral Directors</B>, Conroe, Texas.
