Newspaper essential to community
The Butler Eagle is a noble news organization. To be noble you must exhibit courage and magnanimity. The Butler Eagle is devoted to bringing the finest unbiased coverage of local and national news.
Recently I was invited to the headquarters of the Butler Eagle to confront my political and ideological opponent, Geno Mariotti (“Political opposites find common ground,” Sunday, Feb. 9). For many years, we both have written letters to the editor in hopes of motivating readers to think deeper about the issues that affect our nation.
Although we were both raised in Butler, it was obvious Geno and I differed on many topics. Yet I felt we could both put our differences aside to defend our nation if it was threatened by a common enemy or disaster.
Our Congress is unable to put aside their differences for the sake of the country, and that is a dereliction of duty that threatens the peace and sovereignty of every citizen.
I tip my hat to the Butler Eagle team that tirelessly gets their paper out every day. The Butler Eagle demonstrates how people with opposing views can peacefully meet, debate and agree on how to forge a better future.
Butler Eagle, keep up the good work.
