William Smith Sr.
William A. Smith Sr., 82, of Buffalo Township died at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Sunnyview Home.
Born in Perryville, Oct. 10, 1924, he was the son of Ambrose and Mary Rebel Smith.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot.
Mr. Smith served in the Navy as a gunner's mate 3/c in World War II.
He was a self-employed contractor for 35 years. He also had worked at PPG in Creigton and at Pullman Standard in Butler.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, and he was a past president of the Buffalo Township Senior Citizens,
Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Smith and Cathy (Clair) Wurmb, both of Buffalo Township, and Cindy (Bill) Lausberg of Winfield Township; a son, Mark A. Smith of Butler; three grandchildren, Sean Wurmb of Tarentum, Chad Lausberg of Bristol, Conn., and Kelli Wurmb of Buffalo Township; and a great-granddaughter, Kaili Kemp of Buffalo Township.
His wife, Nancy J. Ballina Smith, died in 1987. He also was preceded in death by a son, William Smith Jr.; a granddaughter, Chelsea Lee Lausberg; two sisters, Ruth McNeil and one who died in infancy; and two brothers, Robert and James Smith.
<B>SMITH </B>— Friends of William A. Smith Sr., who died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>REDMOND FUNERAL HOME</B>, 524 High St, Freeport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Cabot, with the Rev. John Getsy officiating. Burial will be at the St. Mary Cemetery, Freeport.Donations may be made to the South Butler County School District Foundation, 328 Knoch Road, Saxonburg, PA 16056, in care of the Chelsea Lausberg Memorial Scholarship Fund.
