Ethel I. Barnhart Turner, 93, of Freeport died peacefully at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Highlands Nursing Home, Brackenridge.

Born in Meridian, Sept, 13, 1913, she was the daughter of John and Sadie Schlagel Barnhart.

She had worked at a Butler shirt factory for a number of years. During World War II she made socks and shirts for the soldiers overseas.

Mrs. Turner was a member of the Freeport United Presbyterian Church. She had been a Sunday school teacher and was involved with church actives.

She enjoyed bowling, bingo and going to yard sales. She was a past volunteer for the Freeport Meals on Wheels. She also was a former den mother for the Cub Scouts.

Surviving are two sons, Dale W. Turner of Freeport and Gary E. Turner of Oakland Township; a daughter, Martha (Phil Pavey) Turner of Wantirna, Australia; a sister, Janet (Chester) Aspelin of Butler; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Turner, who died in 2003; two brothers, Harry and Merle Barnhart; and a sister, Myrtle Oesterling.
