Snow expected Sunday morning until Monday
A low pressure system from the west is expected to move into the area early Sunday morning and leave 2 to 3 inches of snow in Butler County before dissipating Monday.
The snowfall will begin between midnight and 2 a.m. Sunday and continue through early Monday afternoon, said Shannon Hefferan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon Township.
“We have snow forecast for the weekend and Monday as a low pressure system moves into the area from the west,” Hefferan said. “The most intense time for snow will probably be late Sunday morning through the evening.”
Sunday's high temperature will reach 33 degrees before dropping to 26 at night, she said.
The high on Monday is expected to reach 35 degrees.
“Everything should shut off Monday evening,” Hefferan said.
The weekend should get off to a good start Saturday because a high pressure system will keep the air dry but cold, with temperatures reaching only 30 degrees, she said.
The forecast calls for a 50% chance of snow showers Saturday night, 60% on Sunday and 40% on Monday.
People traveling south should be cautious because warmer air could produce a mix of rain and snow Sunday in Allegheny and Washington counties, she said.
“The cold will keep the warm air south of I-70. The chance of a mix is lower there than in Washington or Allegheny,” Hefferan said.
