INDIANA, Pa. — A western Pennsylvania judge has dismissed a homicide charge against a woman in the accidental drowning of her 13-month-old son in a bathtub.

Tonya Thomas, 25, remains charged in Indiana County with endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.

Homer City District Judge Susanne Steffee ruled after a preliminary hearing Monday that there was insufficient evidence for the homicide charge.

Prosecutors say Thomas left her son, Ryden, in the bathtub along with two siblings, a 3-year-old and a 13-month-old, on Feb. 2 at the family home in White.

Defense attorney Bradley Ophaug called the death “a tragic accident.” Thomas, who is due to give birth shortly, declined comment.

Wesley Thomas, 24, earlier waived his right to a preliminary hearing on similar charges.

BEAVER FALLS — Firefighters from at least eight companies have a blaze under control at western Pennsylvania county airport hangar. The cause of the blaze at the Beaver County Airport wasn’t immediately clear. The facility is about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.County 911 dispatchers say the fire was reported at 2:49 a.m. today. The fire was reported to be under control four hours later, but crews were still on the scene and it was unclear how long they would remain.No injuries have been reported, although airplane fuel and other items stored in the facility created the potential for a larger disaster.
