Kidd 95th birthday
Harry Kidd of Butler will celebrate his 95th birthday with an open house at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Newhaven Court, 100 Newhaven Lane, Butler.
Kidd was born July 28, 1915, in Butler. He married his high school sweetheart Anna Lehnerd on May 24, 1941, in Greenville. She is deceased.
He has four children, Loretta Donaldson of Butler, William Kidd of San Antonio, Texas, Francis Kidd of Novato, Calif., and Jane Rak of Ellwood City.
He also has nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Kidd worked as a stock boy at Kresge's in Butler before joining his brothers in a cleaning and painting business called Kidd & Kidd Painting and Decorating. He later moved on to Dravo in Pittsburgh, where he worked as a ship fitter in the mechanical erection department. After massive layoffs at Dravo, he was drafted and served for 16 months in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Later, he retired from the maintenance department at Armco Steel after 31 years of employment.
During his retirement, he and his wife traveled to Mesa, Ariz., in a camper van, where they lived for 15 years during the winter months.
He is a lifetime member of Hill United Presbyterian Church, where he has served as a deacon and an usher.
